So this past week Samuel didnt' have to work at all... i had 9 WONDERFUL days of doing everything with Samuel (so of course all we did was play... haha) He spoiled me rotten and now he is back at work and left me here to get a million things done because last week was all fun and no work... haha!!
MONDAY--- we woke up whenever we wanted... going to bed sunday night was a lot easier knowing that Samuel didn't have work the next day. We didn't really get moving until around 11... well... Samuel didn't. I of course still woke up and exercised and we talked with the family on skype and what not... but we didn't leave the room until about 11. We went to a bookstore to try and find me some good reading material and left with a new electronic chinese english dictionary for Samuel. this was of course not just a dictionary, but an mp3 player, you can download movies onto it... play games, feed you e-pet and all kinds of crazy stuff. we are trying to figure out how to get the scriptures on it... but we will see if we can do that. it is way nice though and Samuel never puts it down!! after that we went to a different shopping area called the "Drum Tower" so named b/c of the drum in the middle of the shopping area. we got some good cheap stuff... our biggest buy was some wall hangings we got... but we got a set of 4 of them and i am so excited to hang them up when we get home. and of course we got some more cheap DVDs... the Indiana Jones series and some other movies that i love.... and IRONMAN!!! YAY!!! then we went to the bank. we had to put some money in our chinese friend's account for the trip we went on Thurs-Fri. and it took us almost 1 1/2 hours to deposit money. I have never been so frustrated at a bank. we get there and there are like 4-5 people in there... so Samuel stands "in line" and waits. well then one of the tellers decides to take her break and leave the 5 people to the only teller left... no big deal right? nope... she spent an hour working with 2 people... not even kidding. luckily the other teller came back within 20 minutes... but chinese people don't know what it means to Stand in line and wait your turn... they all just push and shove and cut. so as Samuel would try to get to a teller crazy chinese women would cut him off and he was too nice to tell them to move their little butts out of the way. they had only waited 10 mins and we had been there for an hour. I almost went up and pushed some lady over myself... i was tired and frustrated at this point... but who wouldn't be when no one knows how to wait their turn and everyone smokes inside buildings and just throws their cigarettes on the floor and you feel like you can't breathe inside or outside b/c it makes no differance. but the day did end ok... The korean kids i teach were good and had lots of homework... plus their mom was in korea for the week so i didnt' feel like i had someone breathing down my neck. And samuel met me for dinner to celebrate our 9 month.
TUESDAY--- i forget tuesday.... but it was with samuel so i am sure it was great!
WEDNESDAY--- so i am discovering that tuesday and wednesday are a blur to me... Wednesday is a little easier... i went to work in the morning and we got sandwiches and COLD STONE ice cream for lunch. too bad the only ice cream that tasted normal was chocolate... and it still tasted a little funky! i wasn't feeling 100% though so we went home for the afternoon... and decided to go check out hot plates. we ended up getting a hot plates, pots and a rice cooker. I now get to cook from home and its sooo exciting!!!
THURSDAY--- we woke up at 4am so that i could take a shower before we left for our never ending bus ride to the mountains. luckily it was a nice charter bus and i got to sit with samuel... but we did get stuck in traffic for 2 hours. and when i say stuck in traffic i mean they closed the highway entrance ramp because of an accident and the bus driver turned the bus off and we didn't move for 2 hours!! after those 2 hours though he decided to go a different way and 5 hours later we were finally getting off the bus. We went to this chinese version of an amusement park... meaning we climbed stairs to see an ancient buddhist temple and a romantic view. (all while i was sick) but Samuel did get to do a Zip line... which we have a video of on my facebook account. then we got back in the bus and went to find our hotel... this is where the fun began. So our hotel was across a river... and the bus wouldn't cross the bridge (he was afraid he was too heavy) and at this point i am starving and sick (no lunch b/c of the bus delay). so we walked up hills for like 20 mins only to find us completely lost and my appetite totally gone. When we finally got to the hotel they had to argue with the management to let fouriners stay... and then walk back up the hill to dinner. and samuel and i got to share a twin bed... HAHAHA!!!
FRIDAY--- i slept surprisingly well... in my tiny bed. But my appetite was still gone and i hadn't eaten much since breakfast the day before... and of course this hotel's idea of a breakfast kept my appetite far away. The day got better though when we arrived at the foot of the mountains. it was a clear day and i got to walk through the mountains for 2 hours and just soak it all in... (pictures also on facebook). i also bought 2 cute little wooden asian dolls for 10yuan!! YAY!!! then the day got interesting when we were waiting 1 1/2 hours for some people who didn't get back to the bus on time and we ended up leaving them in the mountains.. HAHAHAHA!!! (thats mean... i know... but 1 1/2 hours late... thats just rude) then we went and got lunch... and my appetite sqweeled with delight when normal food sat before me (well... as normal as it can get in china) it was chicken and rice and vegis... YUM!!! then we got to go on these fun raft things that were made of bamboo... Samuel and i got one to ourselves and you stood on like 5 pieces of bamboo strapped together floating on the water and used long bamboo polls to push yourself through the river... it was fun!! then we rode 4 wheelers (my first time... way fun!!) and then sadly the trip was over and we had to get back on the bus and go home. where of course we hit more traffic... but at least it was moving... and at 10:30 we finally arrived at McDonalds to stuff our faces b/c of extreme hunger and go home, shower, and sleep.
SATURDAY--- So after we went back to McDs for breakfast (Saturday morning is American Breakfast Morning) we went to an Italian Festival with Elena and some of her co-workers. Pretty much it was this old italian are they are planning on fixing up and we had a little pasta and watched an italian guy make pizza for 3 hours and an italian girl sing Celine Dion really badly!! Then we went to an American Grocery store that a lady from church told us about... and i died and went to heaven!!! oh it was wonderful. they had cereal, and instant oatmeal, and granola bars, and spaghetti sauce and noodles, and hot chocolate, and Root Beer, and instant mashed potatos and Chef Boyarde and Taco Seasoning and Shells and Apple Sauce.. and much much more! it was amazing. We bought a couple things and came home and ate Spaghetti and watched a movie and slept!! oh what a wonderful day!!!
SUNDAY--- read my other post... hahahahaha!!! all of our pictures are on http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2207766&l=becd5&id=17803905

It sounds like China is a place made to test your patience. I don't know if i could handle all the waiting you had to do in order to have your adventures. I would have had to do a lot of deep breathing exercises in order to stay calm. But to have 9 days of just me and my husband with no responsibilities sounds to die for! Lucky girl. I'm also excited you got some supplies to cook at home. Have fun!
anna, you should blog more! I miss you and stuff. Sean loves his Bumbo seat and says thank you for helping him learn how to sit up properly. :)
